TIPS (TUITION INCENTIVE PROGRAM)
What is TIP?
The Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) is a state-funded tuition reimbursement program for students who are certified as eligible for the program and go on to graduate from high school are eligible to have tuition costs reimbursed for associate’s degree or certificate studies at a Michigan postsecondary institution, with a small amount of reimbursement available for continuing bachelor’s degree studies.
The program is open to students who certify as Medicaid-eligible for 24 months within a 36-month period between the 6th and 12th grades. Certified students who graduate from high school or earn a General Education Development (GED) certificate are then eligible for two phases of the program:
Phase I: Tuition/fee costs are paid for up to 80 semester credits (or 120 term credits) leading to an associate’s degree or certificate. The State will pay up to 24 credit hours per academic year (maximum of 12 credits per semester) for work taken within four years following high school graduation or GED completion.
Phase II: Students are eligible for up to $2,000 toward the costs of pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
Requirements
To be eligible for TIP, you must:
□Have completed the application no later than August 31st of the academic year in which you graduated from high school or its recognized equivalent.
□Have obtained a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent prior to age 20.
□Be a Michigan resident
□Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or approved refugee
□Not be incarcerated (does not include detention of a juvenile in a State-operated or privately operated detention facility).
□Not be in default on Federal/State student loan.
□Be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits). For Phase I, must declare program of study and be enrolled in Certificate or Associate degree program and taking classes within program of study. TIP will not cover tuition from courses outside of declared Certificate or Associate degree program.
□Meet your institution’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy.

MUST QUALIFY. To check to see if you qualify:
- Log into the MiSSG Student Portal at michigan.gov/missg. To create an account, students must have a TIP record or a current year FAFSA (we will start loading 2017-18 FAFSAs in our system the end of October). If a student is TIP eligible, MiSSG will allow them to create a student account and complete their application or update their college selection online, or
- Calling our Customer Care Unit at 1-888-4-GRANTS (888-447-2687).

OSTC ScholarshipsScholarshipsThe Oakland Schools Technical Campuses provide several career and educational scholarship opportunities for our students. Explore the information below and contact your career counselor with any questions.
Michigan Career Placement Association Scholarship The Michigan Career Placement Association (MCPA) provides services to professionals hosting students involved with work-based learning experiences. MCPA established a scholarship to recognize and reward a graduating senior who has demonstrated extraordinary efforts and realized success from placement in a work-based learning opportunity. Applications deadline will be announced in the Winter Oakland Community College Chancellor's Scholarship The Oakland Community College Chancellor's Scholarship is awarded to one senior enrolled at each Oakland Schools Technical Campus. The $2,500 scholarship is to be used for the first academic year following the student's high school graduation. Recipients must attend Oakland Community College at least full-time (12 credit hours minimum) for both fall and winter semesters. Applications deadline will be announced in the Winter Oakland County Technical Education Association Scholarship (OCTEA) The OCTEA awards two scholarships to seniors graduating with at least a 2.0 GPA who participated in a career and technical education program. Contact your campus career counselor for more information. Tom Cain Scholarship The Tom Cain Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors enrolled at OSTC. This scholarship rewards students based on the quality of a written essay in combination with teacher and counselor recommendations. Applications deadline will be announced in the Winter Oakland Schools Education Foundation's Scholarships for Success Scholarships awards range between $500 and $7,500, and apply to the following school year. Awards are based on interest and participation in career technical education, academic achievement and career goals.
